A log home owes it beauty to its rustiness. All over the west they are considered the typical building. Log houses also called cabin homes are both tourist attractions and a cheap way to own a home. They are not difficult to build and you can have all the inputs you need within a few meters from home.

If you wanted to build a log home, you may want to turn to specialized companies who will provide you with a quotation based on the specifications that you require. These companies have been in the log home building business for years and will be able to put up a good building without flaws. The disadvantage is, these companies may charge a higher price than artisans who use mostly simple implements and tools to put up the building for you.

You can also contract out the building of your log home to your local builder. Usually these are individuals without much mechanized procedures. They will offer you lower price and be able to make regular adjustments to the building without charging extra fee. The local artisan may take long to finish your home and may not be able to give you certain features that require a highly technical or skilled building professional. The local builder will be most suitable for log home that will provide the simple purpose of accommodation for the owner.

Whether you choose a company or local builder, you will have to take note of certain things that will impact on your log home.

You will want to be sure about where the log hoe will be sited. It should not be in a flood prone area. Again, you would not want to have a log home that is not susceptible to erosion.

If the wood for the building is not properly treated you will have problems with it. Wood that has not been treated properly will warp over time, discolor or even become powdery. If it is not properly stained with preservatives, termites might chew at it and cause it to lose form.

The floor plan must be well looked at. If you are using the place for your personal use, the living will have to be bigger to accommodate your family. If for lodging purposes, the bedrooms will rather have to be bigger to accommodate multiple sleepers. Guests will use the living room less as they would be spending most of their time fishing, hunting or hiking and only retiring in the evening to sleep.
